A far, so good
Ill be honest - I havent played enough for a solid review yet, but I was sad to see it still hasnt gotten a review, so I thought I would talk about what Ive seen so far.
The game seems like it took dont starve and mixed it with a similar idea to stone hearth (which isnt out yet.) The graphics are good - I especially love the tree swaying, it added to the scenery - the gameplay is smooth, and overall feels solid.
They have a tutorial, which is good but the swiping to close menus is a little odd at first. After some time, you get used to it. The only downside is the tutorial gives you the recipes for the starting equipment, but when you play the first map, your recipe guide is empty again and you have to remember everything you just learned from the tutorial. I kinda wish the tutorial lessons were always available in the recipe guide. A minor thing, but I thought Id mention it.
Im still on the first couple of maps, but I love the fact that there are quests! Its open ended, yet there is an ultimate goal. I love minecraft and junk jack, but I often get lost in how open ended it is - some direction is nice.
As for actual gameplay, the description is pretty good. You start a town, you build your own buildings and put things in them. You can hire people off the street to work for you, and merchants come to town and will buy goods from you, so you can pay the daily wages for the workers you just hired.
There a save system, so you can have multiple games going if you wanted, and so far it works just fine.
I dont have any complaints yet really (except the one I mentioned already), but I would be excited to see new recipes or even more animals added. So far Ive just seen birds and fish, but Im hopeful to be able to have a ranch at some point.
Overall, if you enjoy games like minecraft or dont starve, I recommend giving this one a try. Its solid, looks like good updates to come, and no stupid IAPs!
Im playing this on an iPad 4 with iOS 6.1.3 and I havent seen any bugs or technical issues yet. Happy gaming, and good job devs!
